  the haunting sound of witchgrass is rooted in the lonesome hollows of kentucky and the forgotten back porches of west virginia. young's voice is a ghost — and there is a longing and sense of compassion that permeates through each reverb-soaked plea.
  
  on her most recent release, "quest for fire", witchgrass seamlessly interprets pieces of traditional folk and blues with the insight and intensity of someone with a modern ear and a broken heart. with some help from west virginia string band the fox hunt, witchgrass has delivered an album that is as urgent as it is timeless.
